[2010-04-22] Interview with Paul Winrow Riding on Goldspeed MXR
The qualification went well for me. I finished fourth in me group, thus I’ve got the 8 pick at the gate when the two groups come together.
We’ve tried different tires, the MXR and the MXR2. I felt good on the MXR’s, so we’re going to use them on Sunday. Maybe we’re using the MXR2 in the first race, since the track has been ripped up. There ‘ll be some loose parts, and the MXR2 is perfect to cope with such situations. Up front the MXF was perfect for me, as for most of the riders.
The first race started perfect for me. I got the hole shot and then I set a good pass and rhythm. With a lap and a half to go, Matthieu Ternynck could take the lead over of me after I made a small error. Very frustrating, knowing I had the victory in hand. Nevertheless, I still was second. Which certainly wasn’t bad. I’m still getting used to the KTM UK 505.
Second race, I had again a good start. There was a lot of carnage during the start. Everyone went everywhere. I used my head, rode my pass and kept going. I finished fourth, which kept me in the running for a overall podium.
Last race I had a really good start. But, during the race I had to deal with arm pump. This meant I had to back off a bit and, unfortunately, had to let a few riders pass me. Once it was gone, it was difficult to pass them back again on this fast track.
Overall, I’m very pleased with my start of the season. Third place at a European Championship is great. Holland was a disaster for me, but now I have the KTM UK 505 how I wanted. Now I’m ready for my British championship. Because, that’s my main goal for the upcoming season. I was only riding the first two races of European Championship to get some riding time on the KTM. Now I can concentrate on the British Championship that starts soon.
